Searching for information

If you are having problems finding the information you need, try using 'Search', which is located in the top right-hand corner of every page.

To search the site, enter one or more words in the search box and select 'search' (or press the 'enter' key on your keyboard).

You don't need to use capital letters because the search function is not case sensitive. Using words such as 'a', 'an', 'the' or 'of' won't improve the search results.

Any documents containing all your search words will be displayed first, followed by documents that contain some of your words.

Resizing text

You can make the text larger or smaller on any website you visit simply by changing the settings on your computer.

To resize your text you will need to know what browser you are using.

To check the version of internet browser on your computer:

  • select Help from the top menu of your browser
  • select About (followed by your browser name) from the drop down list
  • The screen that comes up will display which browser and version you are using.

How to change the text size in:

Internet Explorer

  1. Select View in the menu bar.
  2. Select Text Size from the menu and choose a size from the options.

Internet Explorer (Macintosh)

  1. Select View.
  2. Select Text Zoom and choose a size from 50% to 300% or Larger or Smaller.

Netscape

  1. Select View in the menu bar. Select Text Size.
  2. From the menu, select the size you need.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Select View in the menu bar.
  2. Select Zoom.
  3. Select Zoom In or Zoom Out.

Opera

  1. Select View in the menu bar.
  2. Select Zoom and then select a size.
  3. Increase the percentage to increase the text size further.

Safari

  1. Select View from the menu.
  2. Select Make Text Bigger to increase the font size or Make Text Smaller to reduce the font size.

Viewing and printing PDF files

To view and print portable document format (PDF) files, you can download the free Adobe Reader.

To convert PDFs to HTML or text formats use the Adobe PDF files online conversion tools.

Viewing and printing Microsoft Office files

To view and print files you will need either Microsoft Office, or the free Microsoft Office Online viewers installed on your computer.

Microsoft Office Online viewers are free to download:

  • Word viewer (.doc files)
  • Excel viewer (.xls files)

Viewing and saving files

To view a document select the link text. The document will load into the reader.

You can save a document to view later by right-clicking on the link text and selecting Save Target As. Save the file in your preferred location.

If you have a Macintosh with a single button mouse, save a document for later viewing by holding down the control key while you select the link text. Select Save Link As or Download Link to Disk. Save the file in your preferred location.

Viewing videos

To watch videos on this site, use the controls under the small video screens to play, pause or replay the video.

If you have problems viewing the videos, this may be due to your computer configuration, a security setting, or restrictions on updating plug-in programs. Wherever possible, this site provides an alternative text version of the video content.

Videos provided with Flash 'streaming'

Video files are usually large in size, which means they can take some time to download. Usually, you have to wait for all of the file to download before you can play it.

This website 'streams' videos. This means the video file is sent to your computer in small 'packets'. Each 'packet' of video plays as it arrives, so you may experience some delays between the arrival of the 'packets', particularly if you are using a low access modem (56K). Wherever possible, this site provides a downloadable version of video content as an alternative to streaming video.

How to play streaming Flash

You need a Flash player installed on your computer to view streaming Flash video. Flash players are free. You can download and install Flash players from websites such as the Get Adobe Flash Player website, which also provides help using the Flash Player plug-in.

Download video

To watch downloaded video files (WMV format) you will need Windows Media Player. Most personal computers already have this player installed. If you're a Macintosh user, you can download a Macintosh version.

I can't get the video to play at work or school

Often school and work computers are behind a firewall, which may block streaming video or stop it from playing properly. If you want to view the video you'll need to ask your network administrator (or IT person) for permission.

Accessibility

This site endeavours to make our media as accessible as possible, however if for some reason you're unable to access it due to an accessibility issue, or you wish to suggest an accessibility improvement, please contact the Web Administrator.
