Safety alert - Asbestos in mineral kits

The Safety Alert for asbestos in mineral kits is currently being updated and will be available again soon. The key change to the alert will be to correctly apply the term 'amphibole' to the list of exclusions on the safety alert. Since amphiboles are a mineral group that can include asbestos and other minerals, use of the term requires some further explanation. While this update is being progressed please note, if a product is labelled as 'amphibole' the presence or not of asbestos should be confirmed with the supplier. If you have any further questions about asbestos in mineral kits or in stones sold separately online, please contact HWSA_WG@asbestossafety.gov.au
